We added Cloudveil and Midwest Mountaineering as sponsors. I think we have a real chance to start hiking the AT and filming the documentary in March, 2010. Getting this far has taken quite a while. I hope the hike is easier than the planning!

Big Agnes also generously offered to sponsor the hike and documentary by providing some sleeping bags and tents.

Funding is going better. We have raised about thirty percent of the funding we will need. Granite Gear has generously offered to sponsor the hike and documentary. We are discussing potential sponsorship with other companies and organizations.

Gary Steffens and I have encountered serious setbacks. Funding is not going well. Therefore, we decided to put the hike of the Appalachian Trail and documentary off until March, 2010. We plan to use the following months to learn about fundraising and go from there.
I am committed to hiking the At and making the statements I want to make through my hike and the documentary. That said, I am committed to doing it properly and with the necessary resources. Please visit www.blindhiker.com for updates on my plans.
Sincerely,
Mike Hanson

Below is an update on what I am doing to prepare for my hike of the Appalachian Trail and the documentary we plan to make. I have been working out several times a week and walking a great deal.
Award-winning videographer Garry L. Steffens will film me working at my current telemarketing job. I am grateful to have a job at all, given these economic times but it is not what I went to law school for. This underscores the message I am trying to communicate that having a disability makes finding employment matching one’s skills and abilities unnecessarily difficult.
After that, I will meet with a potential law school student who happens to be blind. I hope my experience can help her understand what accommodations she will need to get through law school.
We are also trying to raise funding for the hike and documentary. We are contacting every person, organization, and group we can think of. We realize these are difficult economic times. Please visit www.blindhiker.com for more information.
Happy Holidays,
Mike Hanson
